Driving licence

To apply for a drivers license you need to visit the council office. For this visit you need to make an appointment. The costs of a new driving license will be charged when submitting your application. Your driving licence will be ready for you to pick up (or have delivered) after 5 working days.

Please bring:

  • Your current driving licence;
  • A passport photo that complies with the official standards
  • When you apply for your very first driving licence, or if you have lost your current driving licence; you need to bring a valid identification (passport or identity card).

Costs

Costs will be charged when you apply for your driving license. A driving licence costs: €40,65 (2020)
If you submit an urgent application before 4:30 PM, you can pick up the driving licence the following working day after 11 AM. An urgent application costs more than a standard application: 74,75 (2020)

Medical examinations and Certificates of Health

Sometimes you will need to apply for a Certificate of Health before you can renew your licence.
For example:

  • If you are applying for your first driving licence
  • If you are over the age of 75 years
  • If you have a medical condition that requires your fitness to be checked
  • If you are applying for a driving licence that includes an extra category of vehicles
